Guwahati: Officials on Thursday night apprehended 3 poachers at the Orang National Park while selling deer meat. The forest guard reportedly caught the trio red-handed in the act.

The 3 poachers, who have been identified as Taleb Ali, Saidul Islam and Abdul Hussain, are all residents of the Morigaon district in middle Assam.

Forest officials stated that 2 hog deer, who were carried away by the thick currents of the flood, found refuge at the Orang National Park. After discovering them, forest officials took care of them and ensured that natural predators – such as tigers – could not reach them. However, poachers entered the park and killed a deer.

They reportedly cut up t6he protected animals into pieces and were in the process of selling the meat when they were caught red-handed. 80 kilos of meat were found on their person.

Animals, who have been hit by the misfortune of floods, have become especially vulnerable for poachers. Additionally, many animals that have strayed onto roads due to the ongoing flood scenario, have become the victims of road accidents.
